- JR> What!!!! In what bizare way do you think a second parallel port makes up
- JR> for no SCSI option? No PCMCIA == no SCSI expandability == no way to

-
- PCMCIA cards were thin on the ground, expensive and the level of third
- party support in terms of programming drivers etc was/is totally dire and a
- severe disappointment. STILL there is no finished PCMCIA modem driver. Also
- out of the half dozen A1200s here, virtually all of them have a broken pin
- in the PCMCIA port rendering them useless. Of course this could be rectified
- with a better PCMCIA socket. Yet more expense for most people not using it
- though. I wont miss PCMCIA.
-
- The slot or the proposed general IO port could be used for SCSI not the
- least any add-on to an accelerator.
-
- As for the PCMCIA Ethernet card, so you don't have SCSI when that's plugged
- in anyway? :-)
-
- My money is on a cheap Ethernet card for the IO port (if they add it and I
- hope they do).
-
- Anyway seems to me everyone's loosing site of the fact that this machine is
- a low end machine. If you want to add oodles of SCSI devices, Ethernet and
- Christ knows what else, surely you fall into the high end market and should
- probably just buy the generic PPC '97 box. I saw some darn nice PPC
- motherboards at CeBIT.
